On November 10, 1994, the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California celebrated the 50th anniversary of the ending of World War II by honoring over 60 Chinese American Veterans from Southern California. It proved to be one of the Society's most moving events and, in 1997, a wave of community interest lead to creation of a Community Research Project to conduct an intensive search for more Chinese American WWII veterans from the region. The project culminated in the publication of Duty and Honor--a community book that commemorates over 400 Chinese American men and women who proudly served.
The production process of the book yielded primary resources-- in the form of photos, manuscripts, and audio recordings-- that the Society has stored away in its physical archive. A finding aid of those resources can be found on the Online Archive of California. The items presented in this digital collection come directly from the physical archive, and researchers are welcome to puruse through its content to learn about the experiences of those honored.
